As most know, the previously scheduled Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's (BOEM) Open House scheduled for February 5th was cancelled. That did not stop Surfrider and our partners from organizing a press conference with elected officials, coastal tribes, and industry to say no to this ridiculous offshore oil and gas drilling proposal. The BOEM Open House has been rescheduled for March 5th from 3pm-7pm in Olympia at the Red Lion. Our coalition of partners is excited to announce that we once again plan to host a People's Hearing in conjunction where oral comment can be given and we can show that the people of Washington do not want offshore drilling off of our coast.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is hosting Public Meetings across the country in an open house format. BOEM will NOT be accepting oral public comment at the only open house in Washington State, March 5th in Olympia.
That’s why we’re having a People’s Hearing where testimony can be given, taken down by a stenographer, and submitted as official comment.

Want to learn more about the impacts of offshore oil and gas drilling? Both the South Sound and Capitol chapters will be hosting screenings of Shore Stories, six short films that highlight the grassroots resistance taking place across the US, as well as stories from past oil and gas exploration – including the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster. A broad range of people who love the coast and stand together in opposition to drilling, including surfers, fishermen, scientists, environmentalists, business owners, and coastal residents, are the voices behind these stories. After the films we’ll discuss the proposal and how you can get involved in resisting these disastrous plans.
