Ecology Releases Final Environmental Impact Statement for Proposed Westway Oil Terminal Expansion in Grays Harbor

The Washington Department of Ecology has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the proposed Westway Oil terminal development project within Grays Harbor and the City of Hoqiuam. This has been a long running campaign for Surfrider Chapters in Washington as the potential environmental impacts associated with an oil spill, explosion, or fire would have devastating impacts to this major hub for ocean and coastal recreation on the Washington Coast

Make it to your favorite beach this Saturday, September 17th, for the annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC). Thousands of people around Washington will gather to clean local beaches and share a positive experience centered around stewardship. The long-running Clean Water Classic surf comp where competitors, volunteers, and spectators from around the Pacific Northwest and beyond converge on Westport, WA is just around the corner, Oct. 7th-9th, with registration now open. Tacoma Rises Above Plastics

On Tuesday, July 12th, 2016 the Tacoma City Council held a vote and passed a bring your own bag ordinance. After almost four years of work, the South Sound chapter remained dedicated to seeing the policy through. Following three hours of testimony, debate, and a late substitute bill threatening to undo their work, the chapter and the city of Tacoma were victorious with an 8-1 vote in favor of the chapter supported legislation.

WA Chapters Rock International Surfing Day

It was another successful year for International Surfing Day (ISD) as Surfrider Chapters around the globe celebrated their love for beaches and waves. Each chapter hosts their own event featuring cleanups, community celebrations, and sometimes a little bit of both. This year did not disappoint in Washington as three chapters combined serious fun with some beach conservation focused energy for ISD 2016.
