Now an annual event, Surfrider's Ocean Recreation Hill Day once again brought activists, business leaders, and key stakeholders from around the country to D.C. to champion for the protection and enjoyment of our oceans, waves and beaches. Critical issues such as opposition to offshore oil drilling and funding for the BEACH Act were discussed, with over 100 House and Senate offices visited. Washington sent a three person team who met with five offices advocating for core Surfrider principles.
Kara Cardinal of the Olympic Peninsula Chapter and Eleanor Hines of the Northwest Straits Chapter joined WA Field Manager Brice Boland in meeting with the offices of our elected officials. Over the years, Surfrider's name recognition has grown and become established at a federal level after major successes such the development of a marine spatial plan, our WA coastal rec-use study, and our robust opposition to offshore drilling. Key offices we met with were those attendees were constituents of (Rep. Kilmer and Rep. Larsen) and the statewide senate offices of Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell.
